Lake Michigan Bike Trip - Day 7

Northport, MI to Traverse City, MI 74.11 miles

The day started out promising and became more dreary as each hour progressed. The actual distance included a 43 mile loop in the Mission peninsula.

Sunrise over Grand Traverse Bay

After thunderstorms over the night, the morning continued by prepping for a ride starting out in the mid 50's with a 30% change of rain.

Scenes along the north paved end segment of the Leelanau Trail starting at Suttons Bay.

A Scene along the roads that bridge the unpaved segment of the Leelanau Trail

Some shots of the unpaved segment that makes me glad I chose to stay on roads. It was much of a groomed trail. Certainly nothing like the crushed limestone trails common in Illinois.

A little excitement while I waited for a car fire to be extinguished before I could safely proceed down the road.

One of my favorite criticisms of bike paths is that they are often glorified sidewalks. This is truly one case.

This is a loop under the highway - first crossing over the bridge then under it.

Heading north up the Mission peninsula along the east side.

The Lighthouse at the north end of the peninsula. I actually got to take a picture of this - unlinke the prior day past Northport where I arrived at Leelanau State Park at the north end past Northport and then couldn't walk my bike around the bend because the park rangers forbid it and I chose not to leave the bike unattended. Oh well, not a biggie. It was at least nice to take a break in front of this one.

There were signs saying this is the 45th latitude line when riding yesterday and this morning. This sign doesn't quite make it there, but explains the significance

Heading back south along the west shore.
