Bike Across the USA – Same As It Ever Was

Clinton OK to Oklahoma City OK – 84.19 miles – 4275 ft climbing

The most noteworthy thing about today is that it was not noteworthy. Yes, there was a fierce 20+ mph crosswind, but it was manageable. After all, they don’t put windmills where it is not windy.

The wind was coming from due south. It was strong enough to push waves over a retention wall or stand a huge flag upright.

The roads were not great, but they also were not horrible. The route took me through a few towns, so I spend some time winding my way through suburban type streets. Traffic was for the most part very polite when there was traffic. For example this mammoth bridge over the Canadian River didn’t have a single car on it while I crossed over its length of more than a half mile. A good deal of the route followed Historic Route 66 again – for the last time on this journey.

There was the occasional obnoxious driver, but not to any greater number than I experience back home. There was the occasional picture worthy roadside view, but not much in the way of scenery that rivals what I have already seen on this trek.

Maybe an uneventful day is what I needed most. The weather, road conditions, and setting could just as easily have been back home. A sense of familiarity allowed me to get back into a rhythm. No worries, just riding.

I just took my time and made this as much of a recovery day as I could in anticipation of the 200+ miles still to go over the next two days before my rest day. I planned to take it conservatively since I didn't want to get a big head due to overconfidence.
